Internet browser running slow, pages not displaying
Hi, I'm new to this forum as well and I couldn't read this thread without posting a reply since I have a similar problem.
I have four computers(three of them with XP SP2) and on one of them, a HP laptop with XP Home edition SP2, the browsers suddenly stopped working. ![]() I use IE7 and Firefox and they both behave the same. The browser-window comes up blank and after that nothing happens. It doesn't give me an error, it just keep on trying... I haven't had any viruses that I'm aware of and I am very careful regarding patches and updates. I thought that this might be a local firewall problem on this computer so I temporarally turned it off but that didn't help. My outlook mail and other software that connects to the internet works fine. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Thanks! Last edited by OJ@VIT; 02-06-2008 at 01:03 PM. |

Re: Internet browser running slow, pages not displaying
Two replies in one.
Go The Power - I failed to see what effect this would have on the firefox-browser. I did reset IE anyway but it didn't change anything. ![]() The problem is still there. bhahar84 - No I don't use Norton Internet Security but I use the Symantec Client Security from the same vendor. Is there a known problem that could cause this? Thanks for answering.

Re: Internet browser running slow, pages not displaying
Yup, but it is only with Norton Internet Security, not Symantec Client Security. I'm using Symantec Client Security too. Try to boot into safe mode with networking and browse internet there. Is it working?

Re: Internet browser running slow, pages not displaying
Hi again,
When running safe mode with networking IE7 and Firefox works fine. I tried again to disable the firewall but that didn't solve anything. Go The Power - I tried your comands but that did not work either. Is there any way to find a log of what is happening when IE or Firefox is started or when an address is entered? |

Hi again OJ@VIT
![]() You can browse in safe mode without any issue? Try to boot up in normal mode, and do the instructions below: Right click Here and choose Save as or Save target as. Save the file to your desktop. Go to your desktop and double click on Info.bat, when finshed a notepad file will pop-up please post the contents back into this thread.

Re: Internet browser running slow, pages not displaying
bhahar84 - I do have the correct IP-settings. (I think
)I use a dhcp-server in my router and my three other computers are working fine. NSLOOKUP works and I am able to ping out from my network. My MS Messenger and mail-client works fine. Even html-mail are shown as they should but the browsers will just not work. Re: Internet browser running slow, pages not displaying
Yes, browsing works fine in safe mode with networking.
From what I can understand it all seems to be related to the firewall but I just can't put my finger on what. |

Re: Internet browser running slow, pages not displaying
Hi OJ@VIT, sorry for the late reply.
So you can browse in safe mode with networking? It seems maybe it is related with firewall or other security softwares. Try to check the firewall settings, try to check all other security software you installed there, such as Zone Alarm
