IE7, vista - problems generating certificate requests

Hi
I am getting the error message " the generation of the request has failed" I think this is at the point where IE7 is trying to generate the private key.
Is this a problem with IE or with the Certification authority?

hi

This is in vista IE7 (xp works fine, firefox works fine in xp and vista)
It happens at the point whe the browser trys to generate the private key.
I have attached the screenshot.

what is the private key? and what is it used for?

A digital certificate consists of 2 parts, a private and a public key.
The private key is generated by your browser and only pairs up with your own public key.

What i am doing is requesting a certificate, this will generate a private key in my browser, the certification authority will then approve my request and sign the certificate, I can then download the public key and i have a complete certificate.

Hope that makes sense.....

My problem is at the point where the browser generates the private key and is a browser problem but it could be that the active x script (which generates the key) is incompatible with the browser or there is a problem with ie or its settings.

I forgot to mention that it worked fine up until a week or 2 ago when there was some sort of update in IE.
