Annoying problem with IE7

I'm having a problem with IE7, though I'm not sure if it's IE7 actually causing it or something else. Either way it's extremely annoying and I hope someone here can help me sort it out.

It seems that about 85% of the time, when I go to a new website for the first time - i.e. from my favourites, a link, typing it in and pressing enter - I get the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error page. I then click refresh and it loads straight up. Why won't it work first time round?

Do you get the same problem by doing this

Click Start, All programs, Accessories, System tools and click on Internet Explore (No Addons)

Doesn't seem to happen anywhere near as much, but still does happen. Same deal with Firefox.

Re: Annoying problem with IE7

Sorry to double post, I don't think I'm able to edit. Either that or I just don't know how.

Would it have anything to do with my ISP or network or anything? Thing is I never had a problem with it on my other computer with XP.

EDIT: Zomg an edit button! Must be a time limit or something on it. *shrug*

EDIT2: Ok it seems to happen just as much with Firefox. It's also not only the first time I go to a website. If I refresh a page or anything... always only a chance that it's going to load properly. Seriously frustrating me. I'm stumped. Anyone?

Re: Annoying problem with IE7

Didn't help either I'm afraid

It happens with both IE and Firefox though, so I'm starting to suspect that it's Mcafee causing the problems. It came preinstalled. I'll remove it when I get home thisafternoon and see if the problems stop.

When you un-install McAfee, also run there removal tool

Please download McAfee Removal Tool and save it do your desktop. Double click to install it. Follow the prompts. When finished installing, run the program and follow the prompts. You will need to restart your computer at the end of the installation.

Also make sure you have a AV and FW to install after uninstalling McAfee. Here are seom free ones

Here is a list of some of the best free Anti virus:

Free firewalls:
.

**Note: Only have One Firewall and Antivirus installed on a system at the same time. If you have more than one they may cause conflicts and system instability.**

Re: Annoying problem with IE7

Thanks for all the help Go The Power. I haven't yet uninstalled McAfee so I'm still not certain that it's actually the problem. From what you just posted though, it sounds like you think it could be too.

I have a question though. If I install ZoneAlarm should I disable the windows firewall? Or should I just leave windows firewall and not bother with ZA?

Re: Annoying problem with IE7

If you install ZA then you disable the windows firewall. If you want you can just use the windows FW, it reall goes down to personal choice.

I wish I could say removing McAfees had fixed it, but it's still giving me grief.

Re: Annoying problem with IE7

I don't think so, no. I did a couple of full scans with McAfee before uninstalling it, and I just did one with AVG. Both come up with 0 error. Apart from the problem causing frustration, it's worrying to use things like ebay or internet banking because of the chance the page isn't going to load first go and cause me to get double charged

No idea what's going on. Can't even uninstall IE7 because it's built in to Vista Although... it's happening with Firefox too. No idea...

Re: Annoying problem with IE7

It seems to be worse some times more than others. It's weird. After I uninstalled McAfee it was great for about a day or 2, and has been getting worse and worse. It took me 3 refreshes before this reply page would open for me.

When it gets worse does Firefox also get worse?

Re: Annoying problem with IE7

That's hard to say. I've been sticking with IE7 since I found Firefox was just as bad. I assume they'd be the same though. Unsure.

However... I have another partition (same laptop) set up with XP (and little else) installed and I don't seem to have a problem with browing whilst logged on to that partition. I guess this problem may be outside of your area, as it seems not to specifically be a problem with IE. Should I post elsewhere?

Grats on the promo!

Re: Annoying problem with IE7

Are you on a wireless network ? If so try to connect your laptop directly to the router with an ethernet cable and see if the problem still happens.

Are you using the same drivers for your network adapter on both installations of Windows ? You can check the driver's version in the device manager : go to start => run => devmgmt.msc. Expand your network adapters, right-click your adapter => properties => driver. Make sure you have installed the latest drivers for your hardware and the latest critical updates from Windows update on the installation you're having problem with.

What's your laptop's brand and model ?

Give this a try. This may be the problem.

1. Click the Microsoft Vista Start logo in the bottom left corner of the screen
2. Click All Programs
3. Click Accessories
4. RIGHT-click on Command Prompt
5. Select Run As Administrator
6. In the command window type the following and then hit enter: ipconfig /flushdns
7. You will see the following confirmation:

Windows IP Configuration
Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

That seems to have reduced the amount of times it happens a great deal. Still not perfect though. Still having the problem unnaturally often.

It is on a wireless network, and I'm ashamed to say I hadn't even thought to try plugging it directly in to the router. I'll get around to that when I can, to see if it resolves the problem completely. The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1520 (shuddup ) and the driver for the Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN is version 12.0.0.52. That's for Vista. I'd have to log on to XP to check

Really hard problem to troubleshoot, as I don't have a way to trigger it
