KB942615 -- IE7 cannot connect to Net...
I am running IE7 and WinXP SP2, using only MS OneCare for security. Back in mid-December, Auto Update installed KB941615, and then when I tried to use IE7 I would get an error message something like, "This page cannot be displayed...". I also found that Firefox could not connect, nor could OneCare or MS Update.
I searched the Net (on my laptop, running Vista) and found a suggestion to do a registry hack, which I did ...but it didn't help. (It turned out that the hack was for IE6.) I uninstalled IE7, and then IE6 could connect. I then updated to IE7 again, turned off Auto Update, went to MS Update, hid the update KB942615, and then turned Auto Update back on again. I left it this way for over a month (thinking MS would sort out the problem), but a couple days ago, when I tried installing IE7 again, and updating it, I was right back to the beginning, "This page cannot be displayed...". I've uninstalled IE6, again, and 'hidden' update KB942615, again, and switched to Firefox. I am still trying out OneCare, and all non-MS firewalls, AV programs, and anti-spyware programs have been uninstalled. I don't know if some quirk with my computer is the culprit, but the issue has not been resolved, and my wife (the desktop user) would like to get back to using IE. So any help or hints would be most appreciated. Art |

Re: KB942615 -- IE7 cannot connect to Net...
Hey, Go The Power, you suggested I start a new thread, which I did ...but no hints or suggestions from you yet.
Meanwhile, on my wife's PC, I've reinstalled IE7, but I have blocked the KB942615 update ...which might not be the thing to do from the security point of view. I've also uninstalled OneCare and reverted to ZoneAlarm and AVG, and everything is working okay. Just in passing: I googled "kb942615 ie7 problem" and got 6990 hits. Art |
