Help with Hotmail !!!

Hotmail must have changed it's virus scan recently, because now I can not download any of my old zip files that I stored on my hotmail account. Everytime I try to d/l I get a message that there are too many embedded files to scan. I can't even forward them to my other e-mail account, because hotmail strips it off.

Does anyone know a way to change a setting to bypass their virus scan. These are old files that I've had on e-mail for over a year or two and need them desperately.

I went though hotmail support and have not gotten an e-mail in return and it's been over 5 hours.

Thanks in advance,
sim

Re: Help with Hotmail !!!

Seems like there should be a way to get around it. I, personally, wouldn't be able to come up with a solution without trying it all myself. All I can say is to contact Hotmail (which you have already done) and tell them your situation. Good Luck.

Re: Help with Hotmail !!!

I agree with you that there should be a way around it, but yet I can't find anything in the settings to override the virus scan control. Just another way for Microsoft to control my life, LOL !

Re: Help with Hotmail !!!

I went thru all the settings options + I went to their online help, if you can call it that and found nothing. I called tech support, but they said they will NOT offer FREE on the phone support, so I had to fill out an e-mail request form that takes 24-48 hours for response.

Re: Help with Hotmail !!!

Want a good laugh ? I get this response today from the hotmail support team at microsoft. They obviously didn't read the e-mail that I sent them clearly and concisely outlining my problem. I had to take a screenshot and send it to them, hoping a visual might do the trick. Here it is:
Hello Marc,

Thank you for writing to Windows Live Hotmail Technical Support. I am Paulo and I gather that you were unable to open .Zip file from your messages. I understand how important it is to have your concern addressed immediately and I am here to give you the most consistent resolution for your concern.

Marc, to protect you and your account from misrepresentation, junk e-mailers, e-mail with pictures, links or attachments from people that are not in your Safe list or Contacts list are automatically suppressed.

You can still view the content of your e-mail by doing any of the following:

1. Click on "Show content" link to temporarily view the blocked content. This action will not add the sender's e-mail address to your Safe list.

2. Click "Mark as safe" link located below the sender's e-mail address. This action will automatically add the sender's e-mail address to your Safe list. In addition, the content of the e-mail will be viewable the next time to open it including the content of the future messages that you will receive from the sender.

3. Click on any of the attachments, links or pictures in the e-mail and then "OK" on the message that will prompt to temporarily unblock the content.

We appreciate your continued support as we strive to provide you with the highest quality service available. Thank you for using Windows Live Hotmail.

Sincerely,

Paulo C.

Re: Help with Hotmail !!!

Okay...Microsoft has outdone itself once again. I just got a reply from them in response to my letting them know that their original response did NOT work, nor was it pertinent to my situation. This one is even funnier. Not only did they get it all wrong, but they called me "Jenny", which is obviously not my name, LOL ! See below:
Hello Jenny,

Thank you for writing back to Windows Live Hotmail Technical Support. This is Camille and I gather that you are unable to download an attachment. I understand the importance of having this addressed immediately and I will do my best to assist you.

Jenny, after carefully investigating your account, we have verified that there was a technical problem that caused this issue. However, I am glad to inform you that this has been resolved and you should now be able to open attachments properly.

We appreciate your continued support as we strive to provide you with the best e-mail experience and the highest quality service available. Thank you for using Windows Live Hotmail.

Sincerely,

Camille

Re: Help with Hotmail !!!

Well, I just got another e-mail back from hotmail support...I am happy to report that they did get my name right. I am unhappy to report that they did not address the problem, since I again tried to access the zip files and get the same error I've been getting since the first correspondence:
Hello Marc,

Thank you for writing back to Windows Live Hotmail Technical Support. My name is Michael and I read that you are unable to access compressed files as you are getting an error message in the process. I can understand how important that this issue be resolved immediately and I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you.

Marc, after carefully investigating your account, we have verified that there was a technical problem that caused this issue. However, I am glad to inform you that this has been resolved and you should now be able to send/open attachments properly.

We appreciate your continued support as we strive to provide you with the highest quality service available. Thank you for using Windows Live Hotmail.

Sincerely,

Michael M.

Re: Help with Hotmail !!!

They see the word "attachment" and they read their scripts to find out how to fix the problem haha. They actually have NO IDEA what your problem really is!

Re: Help with Hotmail !!!

My friend you just nailed it.
I've been dealing w/3 morons from India who are working off a FAQ script.
They are pre-programmed and have no ability to think outside the box.
Microsoft is so big they could care less about me or the negative publicity this would get.

This is why my company does all it's online and phone support in Atlanta and Louisville.

Re: Help with Hotmail !!!

I tried going down the phone road at first. They say that hotmail users are NOT entitled to phone support and that we have to go the e-mail route. It's just unbelieveable !
