Thouble connecting to AOL

Mamma said their'd be days like this. Hopefully somebody has an idea how to solve this problem: On most occasions I can no longer connect to AOL.

After several months of trouble free operation using W2k, AOL9.0, zoom v.92 modem, McAfee AV and firewall, life has become very difficult. To make a long story short: Reinstalled HD, w2k, etc. If anything, things have only gotten worse.

Modem will work fine for faxing. It will also work fine using Windows' Internet Connection Wizard and visiting the software download areas of other ISPs. But will usually not allow log on to AOL to finish successfully.

I have used AOLs' fix it, Quick Restore, uninstalled and reinstalled the ACS Directory, tried 3 versions of my modem drivers, 6 different access numbers, AOL 6.0, 8.0 and again 9.0, and turning off or removing my firewall. Each of these have SEEMED to work for a while. In other words, Neither I nor AOL have any idea what is going on here. AOL is now claiming that they have done everything they can and it must be my computer. One of their guesses (yes, I believe at this point "guess" is appropriate) is a RAS problem. I would gladly fix that if I knew how, AOL was unwilling to expain why they thought this or what to do about this.

PLEASE, I am not so stupid as to not realize that the smart thing to have done years ago is to leave AOL. I would still rather solve the problem than create the new problems of moving to another ISP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
