I need help, a problem from hell!
I probably got a virus on my machine but it's the strangest symptoms i've ever heard of:
*I can't run my Norton AV 2004 Pro or Zonealarm, they just dont run. *I can't access anything in administrative tools in the control panel. *in the task manager, in the processes tab, NOTHING SHOWS, just a gray window. * here's the weirdest part - i can't connect to any anti-virus web sites! i tried symantec, panda, mcafee and a couple of other sites and it simply say "The page cannot be displayed" like im not connected although i have no problem connecting to other sites. it's like it knows when im looking for an anti-virus. * also when i search in google for anything with the word virus in it, the explorer shuts down! same thing in netscape by the way... I just don't know what to do! I tried system restore - doesn't work, it can't restore. netscape doesn't help. safe mode - no good. downloaded vcleaner.exe from somewhere - it can't find anything. although my NAV 2004 doesn't work, i managed to activate the pre-installation scan from the CD, but it can't find anything. I have downloaded panda platinum but it can't install, it blockes it too. I can't use any on-line virus scans because i can't get to any page related to viruses as i already explained. I'm desperate... please, if anybody knows what's the devilish thing is or how can i fix it, let me know. Thanx! |

that one sounds pretty severe.
i cant even begin to think of anything you can do to recover that, as something seems to have embedded itself hard. can you download hijackthis! and run it? if so, post a log for us

Check internet options in control panel, look in security trusted sites etc. see if you find the A/V sites listed as banned

I'm having the same problem with my computer right now. have you tried running Hijack this in safe mode? i was able to run it like that. you don't get everything but its a start. and i was able to get an online virus scan from www.pcpitstop.com. that was the only place i had luck.

Nothing works!

knoppix would be able to save you here.
although, i think you would need cable. maybe not though, some people might know how to set up modems with knoppix, but i don't. you could boot from a knoppix cd and then go online and download anything you need, and there is even a few good virus scanning tools that you could use to work on the computer's hard disks. other than that, if you are 100% unable to get to any help, i dont see how anyone can help. (although, if you are willing to edit your registry you could manually carve these boogers out, with guidance.)

Hmm,there is one wayout! If you have some friend with Good Antivirus(wich is patched with latest updates),then shout down copmuter, open your computers case, remove hard drive,go to your friend, connect hard drive to system, it must detect it automaticly, let it boot from friends HDD,then just check your hard drive for viruses with his antivirus! I would recomend MCafee8.0Pro. Good Luck!
