Javascript problem

There are a couple of web sites that I visit that are loading very slow lately. I have now noticed that if I disable javascript (or "active scripting") in IE7, then the page loads fast without the advertising banner, but once scripting is enabled, it takes 45-60 seconds for it to load. I tried using FireFox and Opera and get the same results. I'm using Windows Vista. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Javascript problem

Hello and welcome to TSF

The main reason is because when pages load with add's it will slow down the browser and with the script disabled it stops the adds loading.

Re: Javascript problem

I understand that. However, on my wife's laptop, running XP, she does not have the same problem. That particular website will load in 3 seconds with Javascript enabled. On my computer, which is faster, more RAM, it takes in excess of 45 seconds. The website I'm referring to is a local, big city newspaper site and has never given me problems before. I've loaded it quickly with Vista before. The only thing I can think of that's changed is I loaded AVG antivirus, but I shut that down to test if that's the problem and still the page loaded slow.

Re: Javascript problem

I haven't installed anything like that, I'm just using the firewall that comes installed in Vista.

Re: Javascript problem

Try this:

Clearing Java Cache

Go into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon. (looks like a coffee cup)
  • On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button.
  • Next, click on the Delete Files button
  • There are two options in the window to clear the cache - Leave BOTH Checked
    • Applications and Applets
      Trace and Log Files
  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  • Click OK to leave the Temporary Files Window
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

Re: Javascript problem

Thanks, I thought that was going to work, but it didn't. I noticed while I'm waiting for the page to load it says "Connecting to ad.doubleclick.net" I don't know if that's just where the ad is being directed from or if that's part of the problem. I see others on the net with posts regarding this, I'll have to research it.

Thanks for your help so far, by the way.

Re: Javascript problem

No problems, I was hoping that would work too.

Doubleclick.net is considered bad. Lets try blocking it to see if it increases the speed, please follow this article:
