Re: Error Message on Closing IE7

There could be a few reasons for this: Malware of some sorts. Ir a bad add on.

See if you get the same error by going through here:

Click Start, All programs, Accessories, System tools and click on Internet Explore (No Addons)

Re: Error Message on Closing IE7

I also have the same problem. Trying Internet Explorer without add-ons does work. But is there a fix for making it work with add-ons?

Re: Error Message on Closing IE7

I had this same problem.

Do you have the Yahoo! Toolbar?

Uninstalling it fixed it. I found the answer on the MSDN forums but can't seem to locate the post again.

Re: Error Message on Closing IE7

I have managed to see that it was Yahoo! toolbar add-on that was the problem. Un-installing this add-on has made IE7 work as before.
Thanks

Re: Error Message on Closing IE7

I tried running IE without Add-ons and it worked for me also. However I don't use Yahoo or any other toolbar. The add-ons I have now are the ones I've always had, except for maybe some of them updating. All seem to be valid and are ones I can't disable. Should I try disabling them one by one?

Thanks for the ideas though,
Angus

Re: Error Message on Closing IE7

Power,

I'll try your suggestion. I just wanted to add something that others with this problem may be noting.

This problem happens much more often when a second IE has opened, such as when you click a link. It is always that 2nd IE that gives the error. But again, it also happens at times with just the one IE. What really confuses me is that it does not happen every time.

Thanks again.

Re: Error Message on Closing IE7

No problems, if you want you can post some add-ons here then we can say if they should be disabled?

To get a list of all the toolbars and add-ons, follow the below steps:

Produce a list of IE add ons

  • Click Here to download StartUplist. Save it to your desktop.
  • Extract the files.
  • You should now have StartupList.exe double click on it.
  • Wait until it is complete.
  • Right click on Browser Helper Objects (BHO), click on Save Node and all sub nodes as.. then when the save box appears type in BHO.txt and click Save.
  • Now right click on ActiveX Objects, click on Save Node and all sub nodes as.. then when the save box appears type in ActiveX Objects.txt and click Save.
  • Then right click on Internet Explore toolbar, click on Save Node and all sub nodes as.. then when the save box appears type in IE toolbars.txt and click Save.
  • Last one, right click on Internet Explore buttons/tools, click on Save Node and all sub nodes as.. then when the save box appears type in IE buttons.txt and click Save.

Open up the folder where Startuplist.exe is stored and locate thes files, please post them in your next reply:
  • BHO.txt
  • ActiveX Objects.txt
  • IE toolbars.txt
  • IE buttons.txt

Re: Error Message on Closing IE7

Power,
I went to Merjin and only got a partial .zip file. I use LinkScanner Pro and when I did a Google search for Merjin.org I got a warning that it was a threat site. This makes me nervous about using their software.

I hope this screenshot comes through.

Re: Error Message on Closing IE7

That site is safe. I do agree with you, i use McAfee site advisor and I will not touch a site with a red X.

Here are some other links:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/f...tartuplist.zip
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/file...tartuplist.zip
http://www.merijn.org/files/startuplist.zip

If you dont want to use the program, you can disable them one by one, restart IE and see if you get the same problem?

Disable a add on Internet Explore 7
  • Open Internet Explorer.
  • Click the Tools button, click Manage Add-ons, and then click Disable Add-ons.
  • Click the add-on you want to disable, click Disable, and then click OK.

Re: Error Message on Closing IE7

I think it might be a problem with Site Advisor and LinkScanner clashing.

First try:

Disable a add on Internet Explore 7
  • Open Internet Explorer.
  • Click the Tools button, click Manage Add-ons, and then click Disable Add-ons.
  • Click McAfee SiteAdvisor, click Disable, and then click OK.
Restart IE.

If it works then you need to decide between McAfee and Linksley.

Re: Error Message on Closing IE7

I disabled SiteAdvisor with no luck, then I also shut down LinkSanner, also no luck with both not running. This almost always happens when for example I click the link to Merjin that you gave me in your post. It opens up a second IE. When I close the new window I get no error, but when I close the first IE I always get the error. I guess I'll have to try disabling add-ons one at a time and see how that goes.

Thanks for the try. I'll get back when I have the time to sit and do this.
