IE7 Freezes: Relating to Mario Forever Toolbar

I recently started having a problem with Internet Explorer 7.

As a regular Firefox user I rarely use IE, but earlier today I decided to boot it up. I had previously installed a program called Mario Forever which forced you to have a toolbar on Internet Explorer in order to play the game (a Mario clone). I never had a problem with this because it wasn't installed in Firefox and so it didn't bother me.

Anyways, as I booted up IE7 I saw this toolbar and remembered that it said you had to use it 3 times before you could hide it, so I just typed some random characters and did a couple searches with it, suddenly the browser freezes. I tried closing it in task manager yet in the applications section it was blank, despite the fact I had other programs running aswell. It also showed my CPU usage at a constant 100% and Windows XP running incredibly slowly. The IE screen stays blank and wont let me do anything. I have to reboot the computer to get it back to working normally.

I have tried removing and reinstalling IE but it hasn't helped and the problems described above continue.

IE7 runs perfectly fine in No Add-ons mode and using IE Tab in Firefox (an extension that lets you basically open up an IE window inside Firefox) so I am convinced this is a problem somehow relating to the Mario Forever toolbar. I have since uninstalled the game (and subsequently the toolbar) but to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance,
Richard Winter

P.S. If anyone is curious, I want to use IE because MSN Live Messenger will only open up my Hotmail account in IE

Re: IE7 Freezes

Thanks for the welcome =D

It was a toolbar that was added automatically with the installation of Mario Forever v3.5, a Mario clone

Re: IE7 Freezes

Also I have since deleted the game (along with the toolbar in the uninstall) and the problem has persisted with the same symptoms

Re: IE7 Freezes

Hello again ,

I just did some research on the toolbar, and it appears to be adware. Maybe some of the traces are still are...

I would recommend that you go here; read and follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information; as instructed, to here. (Just click on the coloured links.)

Once done, please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can.

Good luck

Please also remember DO NOT post your logs in this thread, please start a new thread here. (Just click on the coloured link.) and post the logs.

Kind regards.
