Trouble connecting with IE7 and Firefox

In the pas day or two, I have not been able to connect using Firefox or Internet Explorer 7, although Safari still works (good thing it was released for windows). What happens is that you oppen it up, and it just states "waiting for <site name>" and it never connects, I tried reinstalling, restarting but I couldn't fix it. I there any way to fix this problem?

Re: Trouble connecting with IE7 and Firefox

Weirdest thing. Same thing is happening with me. All of sudden no IE7, no Firefox. I have two Macs both running Safari...both are fine. But on my PC, the only browser that is usable is the one in AOL. IE7 and FF both refuse to load any pages. These are the steps I've taken to correct:

* reinstalled both programs...no go.
* followed all of the protocols on MS's site (clearing history, running without Add-on's, etc)...no go.
* running in Safe Mode...no go.
* run diagnostics on network adapter...all fine (IM works, AOL browser works)
* "repaired" network connection...all fine
* virus scan (mcafee)...nothing found
* reset modem...no go
* ran HijackThis system scan...nothing weird in there either

I'm totally at a loss.

Re: Trouble connecting with IE7 and Firefox

I did everything you did, and finally what helped is that I did system restore to five days back, it works fine now.

Re: Trouble connecting with IE7 and Firefox

System Restore...didn't even think of it. Yup, worked like a charm. Hum...gets me wondering what happened to the registry in between? May be a bug...

Thanks for the clue.
