My Web Search

I am planning a surprise get a way for me and my husband. Stupid me went to my web search to find hotels and attractions. Now every time you go to my web search and type in the first letter a drop down menu comes up and it shows I was searching Myrtle Beach Hotels and Myrtle Beach attractions.

Can I delete certain things or the entire history of eveywhere I've been? Please help, it's our 15th wedding anniversary and I'd hate that he will stumble onto the surprise I'm planning.

Thank you

Re: My Web Search

Hello mamabrown, Welcome to TSF!

To keep your 'secret' safe, try this...

Go Start on the Left Hand side there should be a listing for Internet Explorer > Right Click > Internet Properites > Delete History.

This will remove the "History" of the places that you have been searching; hence, keep your 'secret' safe.

Try it and Report back with the results.

Kind Regards,

Re: My Web Search

The issue is to do with Autocomplete. Deleting the history will only delete the Autocomplete entries for the address bar - not for any search boxes.

To turn off Autocomplete, go to Tools > Internet Options

Click on "Content" and then click on "Autocomplete".

Uncheck / Untick all the boxes you don't want to use Autocomplete for.

Click on Clear Forms - this will remove all the search terms you have entered.

Click on OK and OK again.

Let us know how you get on.

Re: My Web Search

Those instructions I gave were for Internet Explorer 6. Here are the instructions for Internet Explorer 7.

To turn off Autocomplete, go to Tools > Internet Options

Under "Browsing History", click on "Delete"

Click on "Delete Forms"

Click on "Yes" then "Close" then "OK"

To disable Autocomplete, or to configure what you do and do not want it to do, the instructions are the same in the previous post.

Hello
Another option is to type into your search engine Myrtle, When you see the names of the hotels, just hover over them with the mouse (It will be highlighted blue) then press delete on the keyboard!

I tried both. I turned off the auto complete but it still shows up. Can't erase history but it isn't adding new information.
How do you know if you have explorer 6 or 7? By the way, I have XP not 2000.

Thanks for answering me.

I don't know. I have Windows XP and I got what came with it. How do you find out which one you have?

I tried what someone suggested for both 6 and 7 and neither suggestion cleared the auto complete that was currently there.

Thanks

I would hate to lose all my information on my computer. I've added some more "M" searches so if he did type a search for a "M" word he wouldn't see it pop up in the top 10 searches. Wondering if it's worth the trouble. Still would be nice to know for future reference.

Thanks

Re: My Web Search

Open IE and click Help -> About Internet Explorer and that will tell you what version you have.

Post back the details and we'll advise you further.

Re: My Web Search

Ok...___'s suggestion above should've fixed the problem:
My Web Search

However, it all depends on where the text keeps popping up. Are you typing the items into a toolbar such as Google/Yahoo/Ask Toolbar or is it directly into a webpage? Also, are you definately using Internet Explorer or another browser such as Firefox, Opera, MSN, Netscape etc?

I'm using explorer and when you open the internet this is what shows up.

File Edit View Tools Help

back Forward stop refresh home search favorites history mail print word discuss real.com messenger fun cards smiley centeral screensavers cursor mania

My web search then open box and search addresses open box

Where I typed in the information is in the My Web Search box. That is a Internet Explorer toolbar isn't it?

Thanks

Re: My Web Search

Ok...I think there has been a little confusion here but we're getting there.

We assumed the text was popping up in the search box of Google or another page like that but it appears that it is indeed a toolbar.

I'll just point out to you that some people consider mywebsearch to be spyware as it does track your internet usage and reports its findings to mywebsearch who are then 'kind' enough to direct adverts/popups/spam to your machine.

It's up to you but i'd recommend uninstalling it and if you feel you really need a toolbar, you can use a more reputable one such as Google?

Hope that helps, let us know if you need anything else
