Problem with Adobe Flash

YouTube (and several other websites) tell me: 'Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.'

However, even if I go to the website to update Flash and the animation appears saying it is successfully installed, it doesn't work. I have tried rebooting. No success.

What can I do?

Re: Problem with Adobe Flash

If you're sure you have the latest version of Flash, then it'll be the other thing in the error message - Javascript is turned off. Instructions on how to turn it on can be found here: http://gsaauctions.gov/brow_details/IE6instr.htm

I should have mentioned I have IE7 and I found instructions to turn on my Javascript. I found it already enabled.

I have Vista. Anything to do with permissions? I am an administrator and allowed the installation. I can't see how it went wrong.

Re: Problem with Adobe Flash

G'Day greybell,
Please try this workaround, as it worked on my wife's computer a couple of weeks ago...

Go Start > Run > type in the box C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash

Now copy the Flash9.ocx file and then pasted it back in the same directory.
You will have created Copy of Flash9.ocx; rename it to Flash.ocx..
This effectively will give you two files; Flash.ocx and Flash9.ocx, both the same file; although with a different name, in the same directory.

Give this a try and post back with the results.

Kind Regards,

Re: Problem with Adobe Flash

Hi again greybell,

Seeing that you only gave ½ the information before, should that workaround not work, and you are having 'Access Permissions' with Vista.

Go here and try this natty little tool. (Click the Blue link.)

Regards,
