RESOLVED: Internet explorer!!
Gudday folks,
I'm a forum virgin so please be gentle!! My original problem is my internet explorer (microsoft) wouldn't allow me to open certain web-sites. (Teletext holidays, National Lottery etc.) I was advised to re-set my web setting which might allow me the necessary access however this didn't work! I also increased the parental guards to the maximum, this also didn't workThen i was advised to run a few programs via the start-run function, i was told that this could allow me the access however when i tried to re-open up my browser i was faced with a blank white screen.......the thing wouldn't appear to connect or let me view anything!!!! #AAAhhhh Hence i have to post this question at work as i no longer have the ability at home to view the internet!! Can someone please help me to get back online and to view those sites if possible?!?!? I tried to reset my internet settings back to the default but to no avail?? Please, please help. Cheers Jondab |

Re: Internet explorer!!
Alright Peeps,
Good news, i've sorted the internet explorer out so i can now get back on line. Happy days However, i can still not look at the web-sites that i want to view.....maybe i've bought a lap-top with ethics......i.e. won't let me gamble on the lottery web-site (national-lottery.co.uk). Does anyone have any ideas? A friend suggested it could be a Java issue but i have Sun Java enabled so i have no idea??? Look forward to your tips. Cheers Jondab |

Re: Internet explorer!!
Hi jondab, welcome to TSF...
glad you have managed to sort the first issue out. With regards to the second issue, do you get any specific error messages when you try loading those sites? It may be an idea to try an alternative browser such as Firefox: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ This way we can determine whether the problem is localized to IE or something more general. Also, you mention parental controls. Are you referring to IE's built in Content Advisor or a third party program? Either way, try disabling it as many parental control programs will block keywords such as lotto or lottery etc. Also, if you have a firewall, try temporarily disabling it to see if that makes any difference.

Re: Internet explorer!!
Thanks for the reply Nickster,
Further developments on the old nightmare of trying to access certain web-sites. My mate took my lap-top and he can access those sites when he's connected to his wirless ADSL provider so this makes him think it's my router. It's the Linksys Wireless-G ADSL Home Gateway WAG200G......any ideas?? Cheers Jondab |

Re: Internet explorer!!
Some routers have website filters built-in to their interface so it may be an idea to check the settings there....if you cannot find the particular setting, backup your current router config then restore it to factory settings but bear in mind that doing this will remove your current connection settings and any pre-defined firewall rules you have set up (hence backing them up before doing it).
Once you router has been reset and rebooted, set up the internet connection with your username/password again and then try again. If it still doesn't work, you can restore the settings you backed up prior to the reset if you like. Post back how you get on please.

Re: Internet explorer!!
Alright Nickster,
Good news, one of my mates had looked into it and it was apparently a fairly common problem for Linksys routers?? I've now had the problem sorted and i can browse at pleasure....what a relief!!! I had to save a zip file and "extract all" = Linksys Wireless G Firmware update Then i connected to my router and had to browse my lap-top to run this update.......my router went mental for a few minutes whilst installing, it then rebooted and happy days all was resolved. File name: WAG200Gv1_EU_AnnexA_ETSI_ML_v1_1_.01.04.zip Hope this makes sense to you, it didn't make much sense to me but my home-boy was there for me......talked me through it all. Thanks for all your help mate! Laters Jondab |

Re: Internet explorer!!
Makes perfect sense..thanks for letting us know as i'm sure there are other people out there with Linksys routers who are going through the same problems.
