Internet Explorer 6 refuses to open links.

Okay, here's the problem from the beginning:

I am running on Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2. I had upgraded to Internet Explorer 7 earlier this year and it worked perfectly up until about 2 weeks ago. It would freeze up everytime I opened it. Everytime I typed in a web address on the address bar and hit enter, a message came up saying that the webpage cannot be opened or something like that. I was like that to every single website I tried. So, cutting my loses, I uninstalled the Internet Explorer 7 and went back to Internet Explorer 6. But thats when the current problem arose. It would not let me open any links that required it to open in a new window or the use of javascripting to open a smaller window. Not even clicking on "New" then "Window" in the "File" menu or pressing Ctrl+N would work. At first it was bearable because I could just right-click, copy link and paste it in the address bar of another window I had to open manually from the shortcut in my desktop. But it still will not open links with javascript and some other links that need a new window. I've looked through dozens of support forums but nothing worked so far. But then again, nothing was specific to my scenario so I decided to leave me own post and see whats what. I hope someone can help me ASAP. It's really getting to me and I have important things to check in my e-mail and it uses javascripting to open new windows. Thanks and god bless!
