IE deselects
I have a problem which is really confusing me.
The PC is a basic Dell model, no documents stored on it, simply running IE and Office and MSN. In IE it keeps on deselecting. You can be typing a web address, get a few characters in and the title bar goes light blue like you have selected another programme. You have to click in to IE again, type another few characters and then it happens again. It is infuriating; and i cant see what it is choosing over IE. Any ideas much much appreciated. thanks chris |

Re: IE deselects
I have the exact same problem, and it has got to be the most annoying thing ever. I haven't been able to find any support information. There are several things that I've noted about this problem: Sometimes, especially when windows is just starting up the browser click or popup sound plays repeatedly. Also the deselection is happening on all my windows, not just IE, sometimes even the start menu. However, if I have multiple IE windows open, the ones that were opened later don't have the problem. About every 5 seconds the deselection happens, sometimes the sound plays, iexplore.exe cpu usage spikes, the hourglass flashes next to the cursor, and internet usage spikes. ZoneAlarm also says that internet explorer is trying to connect, and the IE icon in ZoneAlarm flashes sporadically. This led me to IE's LAN settings where I noticed that the configuration script "http://localhost:9100/proxy.pac" was enabled instead of "Automatically detect settings". I changed it back, and for to 10 to 15 seconds the problem completely went away. When the problem came back, I checked the settings again, and noticed that my previous change had been overwritten. I learned that it was Google Web Accelerator that was reverting the setting, so I uninstalled it. This let me keep the "automatically detect settings" selected, but that didnt' help the problem at all now. I'm really getting desperate with this issue, if someone could help, that would be great. Thanks.

Re: IE deselects
Really sorry to hear you are having the same problem.
We have four of the machines which are brand new and it doesnt happen to them all. With regards to sound, they have no speakers so couldnt comment on whether my problem also has a sound with it. I hope there is a solution out there, i have searched without help. To be honest I dont have much troubleshooting time so just looking for a solution..... really strange situation. chris |

Re: IE deselects
I have solved the problem on my system!!
It was:"Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Bagle.bx" For me it was in the file C:\WINDOWS\System32\hl1drrr.exe. There was a hl1drrr.exe process running in task manager and it was listed as a startup item in msconfig. ZoneAlarm Internet Security 7 nailed this one for me. I just installed it a couple days ago, I guess it just took awhile to get the trojan. I have used Norton Internet security up until now and ZoneAlarm is way better in every way imaginable. Check it out! Last edited by kyebean; 05-22-2007 at 12:44 PM. |
