I use Firefox 99% of the time with NoScript, which makes it very safe.
NoScript - JavaScript/Java/Flash blocker for a safer Firefox experience! - what is it? - InformAction I only allow sites that I trust with NoScript, like techsupportforum.com. Otherwise, if I visit a site that needs javascript I'll "Temporally Allow". Another good program to use is SpywareBlaster . Works with IE & Firefox.
