Any version of Internet Explorer I try will not function.

Dear Sirs,

My name is Clifford Griffin. I just happened on this site by accident.
I sure hope you can help me.

My operating system is Windows XP SP2.

I am currently running IE version 7. But you should know that I will
experience the Identical problem while running IE v6.0.2800... or IE
v6.0.2900...!

Since my IE does not work I am using Firefox to communicate with
you.

Most of the time when I try to access the browser I get a blank
window with the following error pop-up.

"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Included in that message is a statement that says: "To see what data
this error report contains click here." Upon clicking here I see
the following error signature:

"AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 7.0.6000.16441 ModName: kernel32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2945 Offset: 00012a5b"

There is also an extremely lengthy and detailed report entitled "Error
Report Contents" included, but it will not allow me to copy it.

Sometimes when I bring up the browser a window will appear just
as it should. But when I try to follow any link I get the same scenario
as explained above.

Can you help me?

Please let me know what further information you need.

Kindest Regards,

Clifford Griffin

Hi Clifford, welcome to TSF...

how long has the problem been present and have you tried a system restore to a date when all was well? Can you think of any downloads or any websites which were visited which may have triggered the problem?

Also, there is a chance of a malware infection so the following link may be helpful:

Finally, do you have a Windows XP installation disc?

Re: Any version of Internet Explorer I try will not function.

Hello,

Thanks for the prompt response.

This problem has existed for the better part of 2 years now. I suspect
it is something deeper than just Internet Explorer because other related
problems. For instance to answer another of your of your questions.

The system restore function does not work at all and it is not disabled.

I'm sorry to say that I cannot recall any actions or visiting any particular
web sites causing the problem.

The operating system came installed on computer and it was not
accompanied by an installation disk

Kindest Regards,

Clifford Griffin

Re: Any version of Internet Explorer I try will not function.

Ok, it does sound like malware is involved in some way or another...especially as you mention that System Restore isn't working.

I highly recommend following the link above to find out how to post a Hijack This log file. If one of our analysts detects anything that shouldn't be there, they will be more than happy to assist you in removing the problem step-by-step then if your IE problems still persist, we'll continue this thread.

p.s - Please avoid adding your email address and phone number to your posts as you'll probably start receiving lots of spam and nuisance phone calls
