Yahoo messenger crashing

My Yahoo messenger (version 8.1) is continuously crashing. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, uninstalled it again, and reinstalled earlier version (7.5), but no joy. I can provide the log that the Microsoft wants when an application crashes, just in case it is useful, or the HJT log. The computer is clean (from spyware or viruses, as checked by avg, superantispyware, adaware and spybot). Many thanks for your help.

I now have Trillian installed to get in touch with Yahoo messenger users, but no webcam on the free version.

IE7, Zone alarm, AVG7.5, Win XP (Home), 512 MB RAM.

All Firewalls have to be disconnected in order to properly install Yahoo Messenger.
