Hiding File Extensions
I was wondering if there was any way of hiding a file extension when downloading, or if there is a proxy out there that will hide it for me.
Does anyone know wether this is possible? Thankyou very much for your support. |

It's not clear what you mean by hiding file extensions. Can you give some more details about the file types, where you're downloading from, which browser you're using, etc.
Where are the file extensions currently being displayed while downloading? They are usually only visible by going to Windows Explorer after the file has downloaded or in a dropdown menu just before you select a download location, so I'm not sure where you're seeing them while the files are downloading. Do you want to remove the dropdown filetype box from the Save File window (where it gives options for saving as avi, jpeg, exe, html, etc)? Are you trying to hide file extensions in Windows Explorer? Do you want to hide extensions from other users on your computer or have them not displayed onscreen for all users? Proxies are for hiding IPs so I'm not sure what that has to do with file extensions.

I need to download blocked file extensions at my school, ones like .exe and .zip and .mp3 I would like to be able to change the file extension of a file i havent downloaded- e.g. site.com/file.exe
into site.com/file.abc I can only download strange file extensions like .swf and the like. I was wondering if there might be a proxy that changes the file extension. Proxies wont hide the actual file extension. The 'save as' , where i change the file extension to .doc, option would be great and would work but if you select 'save as' it will only save a shortcut. |

Sorry, we can't help you to bypass your school's security. If they want to block you from downloading exe files, it's for a good reason.
