firefox has history.dat - what does IE have as its counterpart?
Hi
Firefox has a great file for those who want a *precise* rendering of every link of every web page visited for however many days of history a user wants. IE might have somethng similar, and i was wondering if so, where is that file located? one of the nice things about the FF history.dat file, is it is located in an area where the computer can actually open the file and look at it without taking special steps. *hopefully* if IE has such a comprehensive history file showing the links, it is as easily accesed. i hope somebody can help me out with this. thanks in advance! tx |

hi
thanks for the reply. are you a microsoft expert? i have a question then, re this subject: the location of my index.dat for cache URLs is here: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat but it turns out that is still not good enough. even after viewing its contents IE still does not record the complete cache link, something i have been trying to get, so far, w/o success. here is the issue: comparing the *exact* same page navigated to, between the dat file from IE and the dat file from FF (by comparison), re: the salient cache link i have been trying to get at with IE for the last three days, IE records this: Quote:

i worked from a completely cleared out dat file for both IE anf FF, and for the other cache entries recorded in regards to this singular web page navigation there were no other similarities. i just cant figure out why IE does not record it the same way. i have done a string search to look for the FF cache link in another location besides the FF history.dat file, but so far it simply has not turned up anywhere else. which begs the question, why does IE (apparently?) not record the complete cache link? how come IE cuts off the full link addy whereas FF does not? and if this is not the case, where do i look to get the precise link informtion inside of IE???? after all if the fire fox cache history file gets the right information, surely IE can too. any insight on this subject would be very helpful. thanks Last edited by tx12345; 02-27-2007 at 03:04 PM. |
