New IE update is causing major problems!!

I just downloaded the latest IE7 security updates, now my browser is not functioning properly! For example, when I download files, I can no longer OPEN them from the download dialogue box...it gives me an error that the file could not be accessed. Secondly, when I want to access internet radio websites that utilize Windows Media Player (i.e. open the application), it leads me to a URL not found page. This happens with *.asx sites especially.
And lastly, I can't open PDF files anymore, IE simply shuts down.

Anyone can shed some light on this? I re-installed the IE7 browser and the problem went away, but now that windows automatically updated my system with the security update again, the problem is back.

I've had several problems with IE7 also.I do the maintenance on my mother and daughters pc's and when they said ok for an update and it was IE7 they hated it.Their comcast high speed cable slowed way down and several other problems similar to yours.Plus they didn't want to figure out how to use all the new "useful" junk in it.So what I did was went to add and remove programs in the control panel, click on show updates at the top, scroll down to IE7,uninstall,went to windows update, scanned, unchecked IE7 update, checked hide this update, everything is good again.Good luck.
