AIM problems sending IMs

When sending an instant message through AIM, there is like a delayed response. For instance, I type the message and either hit "enter" or actually click on "send" it seems like the IM window freezes for about 8-10 seconds.

I have a cable connection that used to be firewalled but I took off the firewall and it still does it. I run spybot and adaware occassionally so I'm pretty sure I don't have spyware.

It also does this when sending IMs through AOL 9.0 and 8.0. It doesn't happen when I log on other people's computer. I've uninstalled and reinstalled AOL and AIM and it still happens. The only time it doesn't happen is when I am on a direct connection with someone. You might say, "well then directly connect with your buddies to avoid this annoyance" however, some of my buddies are at work and unable to accept direct connections.

It is very frustrating because I type about 60 Words per minute and after I finish a sentence and hit enter, I can't even type anything else for about 8-10 seconds because of it locking up briefly. Is there anything I can do? I use the latest AIM 5.5xx and even upgraded to the Beta version.

This has been happening for 6 months if not more, so it's hard for me to determine what caused it. I never got one of those error messages that I exceeded my rate limit. But it has gotten annoying enough for me to ask for some tech advice. The only help topics I have found was "exceeding the rate limit for sending messages" however, sometimes I am on AIM for 5 hours and haven't sent a message the whole time and I still have this problem. It happens to all 7 screen names on AIM or AOL (this computer is shared with family).

The only thing I was able to find was regarding my "rate limit" and to wait for the power bar under "send" to turn yellow or green, but it always is red, yellow, green.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Angry Yeah, I hear ya.

I have a similair problem, only mine is that the entire AIM service shuts down when i click on a buddy to IM them. I have run numerous Spy and Adware scanners and I do not know what the problem could be. Any help wld be useful.

My System

with three people having such similar problems with AIM and AOL i wonder if this is simply AOL's systems having problems.

The AIM service has been acting funny lately, I think. I tried to help someone just last week who couldn't get their buddy list to import, and after some investigation, I think it was a server-side problem.
