Internet Connection Problems

Hi. I have two problems with my internet which crop up with annoying frequency. I have the NTL 600K modem which runs through a silver modem via USB.

One of the problems I have is that when I am playing a game called Unreal Tournament online the USB light on my modem will go out and I lose the connection. When I go to the device manager it says that my modem is still enabled, but I have to restart my computer before I get the internet connection back. I have no idea what is causing this but it is very annoying.

Another problem I have involves the other PC this is connected to. The other PC accesses the internet via this PC with an active hub and in a star formation, and this PC has to be switched on for the other one to access the internet. The problem is that very often you can actually only browse one website on the other PC. You can surf that one fine, but if you try and go to another website it just won't work. And after a short while the internet doesn't work through there anyway even though the main PC is still switched on and connected fine.

Can anyone help me with these two problems?

Send a message via MSN to georgeedwards
check your Graphics Card drivers...
make sure that you Got Direct X 9c

also contact the modem vendor's website - they might have stuff on there

Cheers

George

Get a modem with Ethernet, you'll be much happier with the reliability. USB connections are affected by other things on the machine, with the result disconnections happen a lot more often.

USB has it's strong points, such as USB mice, keyboards, external hard disks, and printers. USB also has it's weak points, such as scanners, cd-burners, video and networking
