Internet Sharing Error

This all worked over a year ago...but something changed.

My desktop runs Win XP and has an ethernet connection to a LinkSys router (which is hooked to the Cable Modem). My laptop runs Win 98 and has a Wireless D-Air card. I have gone through all the Network Connection Wizards and steps that I know of, and although my laptop can access the shared files that are on the desktop (as well as the printer) it no longer accesses the internet. I use Comcast HSI and Internet Explorer. When opening IE it searches and then gives the typical "no page found -- no server found" error.

It's confusing to me since the wireless network works in terms of file sharing, but no the internet sharing.

Pete

yes....several resets (and following the instructions of length of time to hold the button, etc.).

Like I mentioned, the "network" works, but not the Internet.
I looked at this until 1:30 last nite....and just before going to bed I saw through Gateway's Help & Support some troubleshooting for Shared Internet. It had a lot of things to do with resetting registry content etc. -- is this my best option? Or does anyone know the "likely" problem?

Well, the problem started over a year ago (we jsut haven't used the laptop for internet connection -- don't use it too often to begin with but want to use it more now)....and the System Restore settings have changed because of different trials and software requirements.

So that won't work....thanks for the advice though.

I think it is (I have been in the setup)...but will check again tonite.

But if my desktop is connecting to the internet with no problem, doesn't that mean the router is set up to connect?

in the connection options on the laptop, do you have it set to automatically obtain the IP?

Also, have you tried using the WinXP Network Wizard (via 3.5" floppy) to set it up?

You might also want to try changing the port the laptop is plugged into on the router (not sure if this will do any good, but it couldn't hurt)
