Having problems installing IE7
IE7 won't install on my computer.
It gives me a troubleshooting link to read. But, it suggests to change the registry blah blah blah (link listed at the bottom of this post). I'm really not in the mood to spend all that time and possibly screw something up.On my kids' computer it installed ASAP. Go figure. They only had IE6 as a browser. I have Firefox as my main browser maybe that's a/the problem? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917925 |

IE7 Install dumped Desktop, Sys Tray, etc...
Sounds like the same sort of issues. I tried installing ie7 this morning... followed the directions - upon final download and reboot, the computer started normally until it came to loading the user settings and start menu at which time I was left with a wallpaper screen and a "Windows can't find" error after sending off the error message to MS (http://oca.microsoft.com/resredir.as...2.00010100.2.0)
I can access the Task Manager and everything that is accessable from the TM seems to work. There seems to be a multitude of info on this issue; however, they all say the same thing... go to your start button and control panel and remove ie7. As I said before, I no longer have a start button... so not an option. I've been able to open ie7 and use it to access the net to do this research and it seems to me there is simply something misplaced or needed to give the system that extra push to finish loading user settings and load the desktop and start menu. So should I uninstall ie7 or fix the missing files... and HOW? Last edited by JonPat; 11-24-2006 at 11:23 PM. Reason: specific error message |

Hi,
I've just followed your link. Sounds horrendous. You could try one of the many Registry Cleaners around. I use PC Tools Registry Mechanic and it's sorted problems like this for me. Alternatively, you could just stick with Firefox. Regards, Pilot |

Re: Having problems installing IE7
Reformatting is always the last resort after all other methods have failed. In any case, this thread is two years old and is no longer relevant.
