EEK! IE7 - "Customize Your Settings"

So ... I've installed IE7 ... and every time I launch it, it tries to take me to a site titled "Customize Your Settings":

http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx

*but* there is an error on the page that stops the page from loading. All I see on the page is a blue background ... nothing, nada, zip in the foreground.

There is an error message that says:

Line: 56
Char: 2
Error: Object doesn't support this property or method
Code: 0
URL: http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx

I have attempted numerous times to set my homepage to google news, which is where it *used* to be on good old IE6 ... no dice. Every dang time I launch IE7 I get taken to that "runonce2" page.

How can I get IE7 to stop doing this and to, instead, take me to my preferred homepage when it launches?

Mucho thankos in advance for any aid!

Hi and Welcome to TSF

You might look in the System Configuration Utility.
Click Start/Run and type in msconfig. Click the Startup tab

Take the checkmark out of the box beside the entry if you see one for the IE7 "runonce2" page.

Okay, did that, didn't see anything referencing the "runonce2" page. Soooo ... I left everything alone.

Thanks so much, though, for the response!

When you try to set your homepage to googlenews, how are you doing this, via control panel / internet options?

There is a house icon on the same toolbar as the tab headers ...

I navigate to googlenews ... click on the tiny arrow next to that house icon to get a menu ... Add or Change Home Page ... googlenews (the page I'm at) is listed with a choice to "use this webpage as your only home page." I click that choice. Close browser. Restart browser. Browser starts up on ... you guessed it ... that "runonce2" page!

At that point I can go to the house icon, click on the tiny arrow, click on Google and voila, the google page appears.

But I shouldn't have to go through all that, should I?

P.S. What is that error on the "runonce2" page? Can it be fixed so that my browser will run it (once) and be done with it, whatever it is?

Im not seeing an error when I go to that link, but Im on Win98, I am thinking you need to check your security settings, like something is blocking the page from loading. IE7 has spam filters and security settings that may be blocking this page from totally loading. Once you get it to load you may be able to "Customize Your Settings" and then it wont run again.
Are you seeing any yellow bar at the top when the page loads?

No, there's no yellow bar.

I don't know what settings to look for (or how).

I'm about resigned to just living with this 'glitch' ...

... but thank you kindly for going to the trouble to check things out.

I have the same problem with one of my PCs. I won't go to my default page that I setup. Further more, it won't allow me to add google as my default search engine provider. When I click on google, it's not doing anything.

Thanks for the suggestion. I believed that is to get rid of the runonce2.aspx page. I don't believed that it solve the problem of unable to add search providers.

That is how to get rid of the runonce2.aspx page, which is what Rosaleah is having issues with. You however, hijacked the thread.

What you need to do is create your own thread which you will get assistance in helping resolve your issue
