Receiving Symbol In Lieu of Pictures

Hi Chevvy, GeekGirl, and all others.
I am receiving a wierd symbol -------- a square containing a small box, a circle, and a triangle inside it ------- (i tried to copy and paste it here but couldn't) in emails from persons with yahoo.com and msn.com email addresses. Anyone know what could be causing this? They are located on the main email page and sometimes it will show attachments (.jpg files) but they are all totally blank. I have everything set to "show pictures" that i know of and it only occurs on emails from yahoo and msn... Anyone else ran into this? Or know possible solution?
Thanks

Hi TJ, where ya been hiding? You usually comment right away.

Yea, I guess I would have to call them trustworthy (they are in-laws so I had to think about that for a minute )......

I think I may have found out what is happening. Sometimes if you don't insert the pictures directly into the email you are sending, this will sometimes happen. That is, if you forward an email with pictures, the pictures may not go thru despite the fact that they appear in the email you are about to send.

Also, if you compose an email in Word, with pictures, and then paste the Word content into the email, it "looks" OK in the compose box, but when it goes out, the pictures get lost with the resulting red x or broken colored design in the corner . . . you have to actually insert the individual pictures into the actual email in the compose window that you are sending to be certain they actually go out.

When using the web based e-mail accounts such as Yahoo!, Hotmail, etc., it is advisable, if not required, that when forwarding (or even replying to) an e-mail that contains images in the message body that the images are first *saved* to your computer, then inserted into the new message body.

It has to do with the way that these web based e-mail providers cache their images, URL, etc., etc.

That being said, yes there will be sometimes when an e-mail is simply forwarded, replied to, etc., that the above does not hold to be true. Again, it has to do with the way that these web based e-mail providers cache their images, URL, etc., etc.

When you view an e-mail in which the images will not be present for the recipient, but you do see them, that's due to you viewing them in your cache. To be safe, always follow the procedure outlined in the first paragraph.

Hope this helped

Mabbe they will quit trying to convince my wife that I have a messed up computer.
