attachments won't open in OE

Is this the right place for Outlook Express questions?

I just made an exact copy (so I thought) of my old hard drive to a new one,
using the manufacturer's copy program. When I use OE on my new drive, I
can't open or save attachments, even the old attachments that must still exist in the store folder.

When I double-click on the attachment file icon, nothing happens. When I right click, and try to save an attachment, I get a "can't execute that command message." Strangely, I can still see picture files embedded in the body of the e-mail.

If I boot to my old drive and use OE, the attachment access is fine. If I
direct OE on the old drive to use the store folders on the new drive, the
attachment access is still fine. Therefore, I must conclude that there is
something wrong with OE on the new drive.

Anyone have any idea how I can fix this? (It's nothing simple like checking off an allow attachments box in the Options)

Maybe this will fix the problem.

Open OE tools>options>security and uncheck "Do not allow attachments to be opened or saved that could potentially be a virus".

Nope. Remember, I said it's not a simple matter of unchecking a box. This problem occured on my new copy of OE after copying the entire drive files to a new drive.
