Problem running Flash movie
Hi all,
I use Internet Explorer and I am having this problem. I can watch videos in google video but there is no sound. The video keeps on playing but there is no sound only video. This problem only happens whenever the movie needs flash player. I tried to watch videos on youtube.com as well but the same thing happens. Only video no sound. This does not happen if a website uses windows media player. I can watch videos in filecabi.net which uses the windows media player. Its works fine in yahoo if I play any music-video. I installed flash player again and again but it still doesnt work. I reinstalled my sound card driver yesterday but no use. I downloaded firefox and tried using that one but same results. Also the volume icon in the taskbar/system tray doesnt show up. I have the 'Place volume icon in taskbar' option checked in Control Panel> Sound and Audio devices. But there is no icon. I dont know if these problems are related or not but please let me know if you can come up with something. Thank you Elite |

As for the Flash Player, i had the same problem and found that is was resolved by Updating my flash player.
As for the volume control, the volume control files are corrupted and will need to be reinstalled. You can try googling for 'volume control' or 'download volume control' this should help. Also scan for viruses as this may have corrupted the files. HTH |

Hi
Thanks for the reply. I downloaded the flash player update from the website but I cant install it. According to the update a folder is supposed to be in C:\Program Files\... which has the flash player files installed but I checked it and there is no such folder. I installed the updated version of flash player again but it doesnt install the application files in Program Files folder. Can should I do? How else can I update the flash player. Thanks xxxx |

What you actually need is the standalone installers - they are the key!
1. Go to Add or Remove Programs in your Control Panel and uninstall Macromedia Flash Player and Macromedia Shockwave Player.
2. In Windows Explorer (you might need going to Tools -> Folder Options -> View tab, to enable Show hidden files and folders), navigate to C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files and verify you don't see there the Shockwave ActiveX Control and the Shockwave Flash Object. (If they're present, right-click and Remove them). 3. If in your IE 6.0, in the Help menu -> About Internet Explorer, it says that your IE version is 6.0.2900.2180, you're all set for IE. In any other case, go to the Windows or Microsoft Update site (whichever of the two you normally use) and check for updates. If the MS update site doen't offer you any updates related to IE, may be it should be better to visit its own site (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/...s/default.mspx), fresh download it from there (with its updates) and save it (not run it) on your desktop. 4. In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed and verify you don't have anything there. When made sure that all previous staff related to either Flash or Shckwave are gone, run your IE installer you put on your desktop. 5. Finally, visit this site http://sdc.shockwave.com/shockwave/download/alternates/ and download the desired players with their standalone installers. Careful: it's the sdc.shockwave.com site, not the www.adobe.com one! 6. If in Internet Explorer no dialog boxes appear when attempting to download the Shockwave Player, you may be experiencing an issue with Microsoft's Install On Demand feature. You'll need a file called shockwaveactivexinstaller.exe, available at download.macromedia.com (run a search). 7. Post back if it worked. |

Colzie, I'm not 100% sure for IE7; however, I see that Microsoft suggests here three Flash players, of which the two are paid-only and the "free" one is actually a six-month trial...
Additionally, Adobe has made available a Flash 9 beta version that you might also have a look at. Anyway, I'll keep you posted of what I come up with! PS Have a look also at this thread. |
