I'd liek to remove Internet Explorer.

I'm quite happy using Firefox, and have been for about 4 months now. I'd kept my IE "just in case", but woul liketo remove it and any unneded part of it from my system. I'd done a cursory search but hadn't found anyhting.

Thank you for your help.

I would highly recomend against removing Internet Explorer. It is integrated into Windows, and is needed for many things such as Windows Update, even if you don't actually open a window. If you like FireFox, thats OK to not open up IE, but please don't attempt to remove it. BTW, Add/Remove Windows Components will not actually remove Internet Explorer.

Ok, no removing IE. Other than dropping the icon into the trashcan, what else can I get rid of?

I'm not sure how to do this as i dont have firefox but instead of removing IE you could make Firefox the default browser. Could some Firefox user step in here and explain further how to do this specifically for firefox.

Yes I have set Firefox as my default browser, was just trying to remove a much of IE as possible withiut killing windows. Later as I go Linux I'll dump all the window components, but thats for the future.

When you open firefox it should ask you if you want to change it to the default browser... Otherwise it show just be in settings somewhere, just needs a bit of searching... Tools, advanced settings maybe...
I prefer using netscape, most advanced and some great features, the new IE completely copied them with the new tab browsing...
It is amazing how many different programs IE is required in... Msn, windows updates, downloading things can often require it, even some online (but installed, like quake 3...) games!

Why do you want to get rid of IE so much??

There's many more 'less important' components of Windows that you'd rather lose and that wouldn't affect the running of your system.

How do you plan on downloading critical updates and security patches without it?

There are many implications to think of and as someone else has already stated, you need to have IE on the system just to install many, many programs.
