Outlook Express - HOW MOVE TO NEW PC
I just replaced my 3-year old eMach with another (power supply appears to have fried the motherboard - but I can read the C: OK) How can I transfer my Outlook Express email folder contents to the new eMach ? Both at XP.
Thanks. Bob. |

Follow this procedure to replace the mail data from your old Outlook Express to your new one:
1. Open up OE on the old computer and go to Tools > Options... > Maintnance tab > Store Folder. 2. Copy the adress in the box. 3. Open up MY Computer (Windows Explorer) and paste the adress you just copied into the adress bar and hit Enter. 4. Copy all the files you see and paste them onto a flash drive or other removable drive. 5. Put the drive into the new computer and repeat steps 1 - 3 to get the adress of the outlook files. 6. Open up another My Computer and copy the files on the removable drive. 7. Go to the other window where you went to the adress and paste all the files, replacing all of them. Open up OE and they should all be there.

Hi, Matt. I appreciate the response - but the old machine is not operable - and the old drive is not bootable (but I can read all the files in the directories.) What directories/sub-directories do I move from the old to the new ? (both operating systems are XP and the IE versions are the same) Or do I have to take a different approach ? Apparently they're well-hidden/encrypted because I can't find any of the OE email folder file names !!! Do you know where they are ? Thanks, again, Matt !

Hi there...
the default folder location can be in a couple of different places but is usually here: C:\Documents and Settings\Nick\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{********-****-****-****-*********}\Microsoft\Outlook Express (please note the profle folder name will have numbers and letters instead of *'s) As you said, some of the folder path is hidden so if you can browse to that location, you should be able to copy the entire contents to the new location. The files you want will all have a .dbx extension. Hope that helps :-)
