- I'm presently 47 years old, had a successful career in sales for 20 years. Became disabled at age 43 due to osteoarthitis in my spine, leading to a four level lumbar fusion that left me in more pain than before the surgery. However, my spine is stable, there was the strong possibility that my spinal cord would be damaged had the surgery not been done. But I don't let it get me down.
