Green houses

Anyone use them or even built one? How well did it work for you?

Re: Green houses

I was at a farmers home here in NW Ohio and he had a cool setup.
It is a pole frame building.
Over the top of the pole frame he puts 2 layers of clear thick plastic and secures them with zip ties for windy days.
He then puts the equivilent of bathroom fans and dryer exhaust hoses to blow air between the layers to keep them seperated.
I was there in January and was amazed at the 65 degree temp inside.
Outside it was around 10 degrees with a decent amount of snow on and around them.

He has 5 or 6 of them. One was large enough to contain a combine, a tractor and a pair of large trucks.
Others he used to start ornamental flowers to be ready for the spring planing season.

With you being in Tampa area I would think that you have the opposite problem and have too much HOT sun and would need a diffuser most of the year.
i know I lived in Clearwater for 15 years and it does get cold at times and I would think that the above 1 layer of plastic would be enough to protect the plants during those times.

Re: Green houses

I was thinking of a small one to get seeds started before planting. Maybe for trying to keep herbs growing all year.
