Home security cameras
hey there
im thinking of installing a home security system, cameras and all. i have been looking at stuff online for a few days now that are able to record everything to a computer HDD. i want to have 2 cameras out front and 2 out back of my place and have it record. i was thinking of spending a thousand on this at the most. if there are some of you here that run this kind of a setup i would like to hear some thoughts and maybe help with me making a decision on this. and thanks alot for reading.

Re: Home security cameras
I have something similar. I have 2 IP network cams, one wired ethernet and one wifi. I don't have a stand alone DVR but can record to connected network computers... but I don't actually use that feature since it would mean leaving a computer running 24/7. I just have the cams set to send e-mail upon motion detect.
Since the cams have built in servers alls I need to leave on is the router, i.e., do not need a computer in the loop. Can also view live video from any computer connected to the internet. Let us know what you install. I like the idea of going to a server/DVR with either standard cams or IP cams. It starts getting complicated and expensive when you want outside (low light and low temp) capabilities. I'd love to see TSF start an IP netcam DVR/server forum. |

Re: Home security cameras
Costco is selling a similar system that I think uses regular CCTV cams. The problem for me with these is the wires that need to get run from the cams to the DVR. If I ever do something like this I'd need a DVR that uses IP cams and has built in wifi.
Let us know how your works out, Dai. |

Re: Home security cameras
i had wifi before but everytime the 2.4g phone is used or the micro is used the picture is non existant
it was a pain obtaining the cables here and then having to put power points in but at least the picture does not suffer

Re: Home security cameras
Mine doesn't suffer from microwave or phone. It is an Axis 207W linked to a garden variety Cisco G router. Yes, also need power points.... unless you get a DVR that supports ppoe IP cams. One wire.... no power points... That would be a cool setup that, with a router/DVR UPS, would be relatively immune to power outages.
