backing up ipod
Sorry if this is a duplicate, I tried searching the threads but the search isn't working
What's the best way to backup the contents of an ipod? Can I simply make a duplicate copy of the itunes folder, and restore that folder to a new computer if necessary and a new itunes installation will pick it up and everything be as normal? Or is this even necessary? Between itunes and the ipod I guess you could say you do have a backup copy of the music. Replacing an ipod is the easy part I guess, sync itunes with a new ipod (I haven't experienced this because I'm still on my first ipod) and everything will copy to the ipod. What I'm searching for at the moment is a way to copy my ipod contents to a new computer. I've just found and have yet to try, cucusoft ipod to computer. Is this type of a solution all I need to make sure I don't lose any of my music? thanks |

Re: backing up ipod
If you want to copy the music files from your ipod to your computer have a read of this
the section on NOT using third party software works - I have successfully transferred music from my ipod to my computer after losing music files in a computer crash.

Re: backing up ipod
Thanks
What I managed to do was copy the music folder from the ipod into itunes on the new computer. That worked fine. All I had to do was redo my playlists but the music was all there. A curious thing though I'd like to avoid, when I connected my ipod to the new itunes, it immediately synced for just a couple seconds, I had hoped for such a short time it didn't really do anything. But then checking the ipod, it was empty. Seems like it should ask before doing that. |
