SanDisk e280(mp3 player) wont read on my laptop

Ok I have 2 problems with my MP3 player(sandisk e280).

First is my laptop will not detect the mp3 player once i have it in with the usb cord to my laptop. My laptop is running vista(new laptop). I have tryed using it in diff. computers/laptops also and it will not read the mp3 player in any of them with this info i do not think it is my computer. Would anyone know why it is doing this and/or how to fix it.

The second would be that every time i turn on my mp3 player it tells me to chose a language then works fine but it resets to default settings would anyone know why it would do this and/or know how to fix it

Uhm did you try plugging your usb cord into another USB port?
