Re: TV question

No, that's wrong. HD-ready means the resolution of the monitor is either 720p or 1080p/i. But that doesn't mean it can see HD movies. The DVD plater is the problem here. No DVD player by itself can play mkv files. Also mkv files by themselves are not HD movies, they are just a container of the movie inside, be it HD or not.

In order for the monitor to display in HD, you need to give it an HD feed, like DVI or HDMI, not component or composite or s-video.

What is the model of the monitor? What video outputs does your computer have?

Re: TV question

That TV has a HDMI input, and your PC has a DVI input. The DVD player has no way to display HD, but the PC can. I would recommend you get a DVI to HDMI cable and watch the videos from the PC< that way, you can see it in HD.

Re: TV question

Yes, but that wouldn't be called a DVD player. DVDs themselves are limited to a maximum quality, nowhere near HD. But if you haven't heard of it yet, there is the newer Blu-ray discs and players that are coming out. But those are very expensive. The cheapest way to enjoy HD videos on a HDTV is to directly connect it to the PC, which is also what I have done. I know it can be a bummer but the DVI->HDMI is the easiest way to accomplish this task.
