Cell phone for a 7 yr old?

Hello everyone

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I am looking for the most simple, basic cell phone for my granddaughter.
She is 7 yrs old.

I wouldn't normally give her one, but she is often with her father and his relatives ( divorce situation here). I wish to give her this added tool so that she may call us at anytime day or night.

Any help would be so appreciated. I am in the USA. Thanks

get a tracfone They are just about as basic as you can go. Check your local walmart or discount store for them or go to tracfone.com, amazon.com . Its pay as you go so you wont have to worry about the seven year old running up 2000 dollar monthly phone bills :-)

Kids don't need phones.

They do in this day and age, for a variety of reasons. Only a few of which could be:

Parent has to stay late at work and can't pick them up at regular time.

School bus dropped them off at the wrong place after moving to a new and unfamiliar neighborhood. It happened to one of my kids before the age of cell phones. I was worried sick when she didn't show up; had no idea where to start looking. Fortunately she was able to find her way home, but she walked a good mile or two. She was barely older than 7-8 when it happened.

Lots of weirdos out there.

Re: Cell phone for a 7 yr old?

Thanks everyone for answering, I really appreciate it.

I have decided to get the Firefly phone, it only has 5 buttons and can hold 20 phone numbers. There are no texting capabilities on this phone.
