Red Faced Sony DSC-S600 dropped in water

Hello everyone
I noticed that there was another thread about cameras being dropped in water, but it was about recuperating the pictures.

I want to ask you this:
I accidentally dropped it in water, and because the lid that covers the lens has been stuck for many years now, a lot of water got inside it. I was shaking it and and it looked like it was full of water.
It got dry now and it opens but the screen is damaged. It has light on, but there doesn't appear any image, the center seems to be washed away. Also, it doesn't focus or take any pictures.
Does anyone know if there is any chance of getting it fixed? The stuck lid too? Or maybe if it would cost a lot since the warranty is long gone (I guess that even if it was in warranty it wouldn't cover this kind of damage).

I know I was stupid but it cost a lot when I bought it and I don't have any money to buy a new one :(
Can anyone help please?
Thank you!

Re: Sony DSC-S600 dropped in water

The best advice when a piece of electronics is dropped in water is to dunk it again in distilled or deionized water then dry it our slowly but not too slowly such that it corrodes. If after that treatment it doesn't work - like your Sony - its probably unrecoverable.

You might try asking Sony if they'll repair it and at what cost? Used to be they'd give you a figure but now they're more likely to say "Its a $250 charge just to look at it. We'll credit that to you if we can fix it." But in all probably they can't. And since they're less than $100 ( LINK )I wouldn't bother. Sorry

Re: Sony DSC-S600 dropped in water

Wow! That's their price? I bought it from my country and I paid... in dollars... 300-400 at the time!!
I'm too scared to drop it myself, maybe I'll find someone who works in this area and I'll give him a few bucks to tell me what's wrong...
Thank you for your answer!! It was helpful.
