Gps help

I just bought a garmin nuvi 360 and I can't get signal with it.

It seems to work fine, but my cars speedometer just went out, and I was going to use the gps to find out how fast I am going, but that is the only thing on my gps that I can't get to work.

My next question is does your speedometer need to be working for the gps to see a speed?

I floored it in my yard tearing up the yard, and the gps said 0.0mph, and my car speedometer said 20mph, which I know I was doing faster than that, more like 30-40mph.

I only know that my speedometer went cause my friend borrowed my car and got pulled over for doing 60mph in a 35mph zone, but the speedometer was at 40mph. I was in the car and I am a witness to that, but the cop of course didn't believe a few teenagers. My friend wants to be a cop and all that, and he knows the police chief in his area really well, not the area he was pulled over, but anyway I told him the police chief could drive my car, cause he could help him out if he knew that the speedometer was broke.

Re: Gps help

I don't know that particular device but I have used GPS on my Dell Axim for several years.

You GPS unit will take location readings from the satellites at precise and regular intervals. It will then calculate the distance between the readings and by further calculation, it will know how fast it took to travel between locations. That speed is then displayed. No you do not need your vehicles speedo in operation to get the GPS speed working. (You may be breaking your countries motoring laws by not having a working speedo)

Many of the features available with GPS software will need to be either switched on or switched off, depending on the users preference. If your machine is not displaying a speed, then check the user preferences or configuration.

You will need to Read The Fine Manual
