4G iPod can only hold 300 songs???

For some reason 4G can only hold 306 songs right now. I deleted everything that was on it because I made a new library(folder) on my computer with all my songs and wanted to add them ALL to my iPod but now all of a sudden the maximum capacity has been reached. How the hell did that happen??? Almost all my songs are in MP3 format too...HELP!!! Much thanks in advance =)

How big are the mp3 files??

They all average about 4 minutes long...(3.5MB it says in the properties)
