Help read and add to an MP3 using FAT files

Hi,

I have bought an MP3 player and it looks like all the files on it are in FAT format (according to the manual).

With my XP computer I am unable to see these file and also unable to add more music etc to it.

Any ideas how I can overcome this?

Hello Nimmira, welcome to TSF.

What is the make and model of your player?

FAT (File Allocation Table) is not a file type. Instead, FAT is a file system used by DOS and Windows up to (and including) ME. After ME, Windows uses NTFS, but is still compatible with FAT devices and drives if the need to use these arises.

Your player will most likely read .mp3 files.

Hi its an ATMT and the model is N-lite. Website link below. Any ideas on how I can read the files in the player so I can make back-up copies and also how to write MP3 files to do it. Thanks for helping

Hashed-out Japanese translations, my favourite.

From what I can make out, this is a standard USB transfer device. The compatible file type is .mp3. To use, follow these simple directions (also found in the user manual).
1. Connect USB cable to player.
2. Connect USB cable to computer.
3. Open the USB device on the computer. (My Documents=>USB Drive)
4. Drag-and-drop or cut-and-paste the files you want from the computer to the player. Delete the files you don't want from the player.
5. Follow the incredibly complex directions from the manual on the website to play the files on the player.

You do not have to make a backup copy of the firmware or software from the player, as the website hosts both files.
