Help me with maths for my ZEN mp3

I am thinking of getting one of the Creative ZEN ipods

On the specification page
http://www.creative.com/products/pro...ct=16999&nav=1
it says you can have 4,000 songs on the 16 GB version,
that's a lot but
is 128kb a standard or would it be normally less songs?

I ripped my CDs into AACs so far - how many could I squeeze onto this ZEN?

Re: Help me with maths for my ZEN mp3

128kb/sec is the absolute minimum I would use. My mp3s are 192kb/s or higher.

Put all your files into one folder. Go Properties, look at the size, then subtract 1 kb for each sub-folder in the large folder, then subtract 1 kb for the big folder. That will give you the size of your .aac files.

1 kb= 1 024 bytes
1 mb= 1 024 kb
1 gb= 1 024 mb= 1 073 74 824 bytes

Each .aac is a different size, so I can't give you a better answer.

Re: Help me with maths for my ZEN mp3

Thanks I have 30GB of songs but I am not sure what you meant.

Okay so if there arrived at 4,000 at 128 bitrate then 192 bitrate means 50% rise in quality and 50% more data? So that would be 2,000 songs. Or 2,666 songs?

Re: Help me with maths for my ZEN mp3

I have no idea what you are asking me. For AACs, 128 kbps is the same quality as a 192 kbps mp3

From http://www.tunetuzer.com/bitrate.html
Quote:
Some formats offer higher quality than others at the same bitrate. WMA and AAC files encoded at 128kbps typically sound as good as 192kbps MP3s
Please note as well, you will not have all of the 16GB to use for music. Some of the space will be used for the software needed to run the player.
