TV tuner won't play sound from video camera
Hi again,
I was having problems with a TV tuner card (InterVideo MSI PVS) that wouldn't play sound after I swapped it over to a new Mobo (an ASUS P4P800E Deluxe, identical to the last one, which burnt out) but I eventually figured out the problem - I'd forgotten to attach a small sound cable between the tuner card and my Seagate sound card - it had gotten stashed away with all the spare cables that came with the replacement Mobo. So now I'm getting sound from cable TV, but for some odd reason I can't get sound when I hook up my video camera via the S-video cable. Picture is fine - just no sound. It seems odd, given that I've solved the sound problem on one score, but still have a problem elsewhere. I've tried every variation I can think of on the set up for the sound, but nothing seems to work. My choices are Device - a) SB PCI b) Realtek AC 97 Audio Source - a) CD Audio b) TAD-in c) Auxiliary d) Microphone e) Line in As I said, I've tried every one, but nothing none of them have worked. The one I thought should have been the one is SB PCI/Line in. Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance.......Tim |

So what next?
Hi,
Thanks for that reply. Sorry for the delay, I was away for a week. I didn't realize that the S-video cable only carried picture - I thought it did both jobs! I'm still confused though. The other cable that came with my sony Hi-8 camera has an A/V jack on one end that plugs into the camera and then splits into two seperate cables at the other end, both of which I think are what you call RCA jacks (?). Problem is, while I can plug the visual one in to the TV tuner card, I can't do the same with the audio one, as there isn't a matching jack for it on the card - or anywhere else on the back of the computer. I went to Radio Shack to ask if there was an adaptor I could insert on it, but the people there didn't seem to know up from down and couldn't help me. Can anyone give me some ideas? Is there in actual fact an adpater I can use, or do I need some other kind of cable? Thanks in advance........Tim |

What color are the RCA jacks that you are describing? The red and white RCA jacks are for the right and left channels of audio respectivley. Plug this into the red and white jacks on the TV tuner, not your sound card.

Cable confusion
It may perhaps be simpler to refer you to the specific page of the manual for my camera, which can be viewed online at page 32 - http://www.henrys.com/manuals/sony/CCD-TRV58(En).pdf
The yellow jack is for video, the black one is for sound. I have no problems plugging in the yellow one on my tuner card, but there is no suitable pin anywhere on the back of the computer for the black one (sound) to slot into - it's either too big or to small for them. That's why I was asking if I needed to get some sort of adapter for it. The manual mentions something about RFU adapters - is that what I need? I should also point out that I know the cable works okay, because I use it constantly to view the video's directly from the camera on our TV. If it makes it any easier for someone to pinpoint what I should be doing, here are the basics of my system - ASUS P4P800E - deluxe Mobo Prestcott 3.0E CPU ZALMAN CNPS7000B-Cu Cooling Fan Thermaltake TT-420AD ATX 420W Power Supply 1024MB DDR SDRAM DDR 400 RAM Seagate 200 Gig. That black one is just a mono phono jack. just use a single channel (mono) RCA cable to connect the black jack to the white input on the TV tuner.
