7800GTX Temperatures
I was just wondering what the "Idle" and "Under Pressure" temperatures for each 7800GTX in an SLI configuration should be.
My 7800GTXs idle at 54°C and 57°C, and after only 3 or 4 minutes in a game, they get up to 65°C and 68°C. Is this normal? They are extremely hot to the touch once they've been running for a couple of minutes. Is this to be expected, or are they getting too hot?

Hi,
There are actually no real set guidelines on this issue for these cards that I know about. My opinion (and I emphasize opinion) is that your idle temps are on the high side for the 7800's. I would prefer to see them under 50c at rest. That being said, I don't think your "under pressure" RISE in temps is out of line at all and is pretty normal. One must remember, these are pretty darn high tech cards that generate a lot of heat. I don't like to see anything in my case go over 63c, but if yours is still under 70c, then you are probably within the ball park on temps. You might want to look at initial cooling and fan placement in the case to see if you can get the initial temps down a little and therefore reduce the "ride" to the higher temp limit. That is as I said my personal opinion and two cents worth. Since I have no claim to being a video card expert, I would like to see some others chime in on this to give you a better profile of what they think. There on some on here really into gaming and they "know" more than I do on this issue since I am not a big gaming fan.

Thanks for your quick reply. I did a little more testing, and managed to get one of the cards to 71 degrees, after only about 10 minutes in Doom 3. The case has good ventilation and airflow, and the computer is in an airconditioned room, so the temperatures seem a little high to me. Nothing else in the system gets nearly as hot as the video cards. Thanks for your input on this. If the new info changes anything, please let me know.

do u have proper cooling? fans infront blow cool air in and blows out hot air? well i have an Nvidia GeForce 7800 GT, and before i got my new power supply, all my new fans, and sleeved wires, my idle temp for me graphic card was around 40-50 degrees celuis. but i have recently got all my stuff. i have 2 80mm fans blowing in cool air from the front of the case, 1 80mm fan on the window blowing cool air directly on my graphic card, and 2 80mm fans blowing the warm out the back. i also have all my cords sleeved and hidin for maxium air flow. if u need some websites for moding out ur pc or any help just ask me. here are some pictures of my air flow now:
