Angry Resolution Problems 6600GT DVI with VGA-screen

Hi

I have a pretty big problem:

I recently bought a new graphics card:
A XFX Geforce 6600 GT 128MB DDR3 AGP8x, 2xDVI

I use this card in combination with a Philips 170S6FS LCD-screen with a regular VGA-connection.

The problem is when I start Battlefield2 (and some other games), the card switches to a resolution of 800*600 (I found out thanks to a configuration file), and my Flat Panel tells me that it cannot view that resolution; it tells me that I have to switch to 1280*1024@60Hz.

I quitted the program with Alt+F4 and switched the resolution to 800*600 with the Nvidia-systemtray icon (Apperantly that DOES work )
Then, I started BF2 and it worked... but when I quit the game, forget to switch back to 1280*1024, and reboot my computer, I get the same error and I can't use my computer anymore (not even in Safe Mode ).

I managed to change my settings back with my old videocard, but it shouldn't be like this...

Does anyone have a sollution for this problem, I allready own the latest drivers of Nvidia AND Philips???
If yes, please help!!

My System

First of all, I'm not at all sure what's going on with your system. If you assume that your monitor is extremely picky about refresh rates then it all makes sense except for it not working in safe mode. Safe mode uses a generic Microsoft display driver which sets a resolution and refresh rate which all VGA monitors should accept. I don't see how your monitor could refuse to display in safe mode (assuming it's working properly). You might try VGA mode rather than safe mode to see if that's any different although I would expect it to do the same thing.

In any case, if your problem is refresh rate related, then you might be able to solve it with RefreshForce. RefreshForce allows you to select the refresh rate which will be used for each screen resolution. You could just go through and set the refresh rate for each resolution manually to something which works. You'll have to find the refresh rates by trial and error because the drivers you're currently using don't seem to know what refresh rate to set. I'm not 100% sure that this will solve your problem but it's worth a try.

solved

It wasn't the refresh rate, wich was 75Hz btw (my Flat Panel can handle 60-75Hz)...

I think it was a conflict of the new DVI connection and the VGA-settings in Windows (I could NOT change my resolution like I used to do it)

I couldn't get it fixed, so I brought my card back and I got one in return with an ordinary VGA-connector now everything works fine...
