Graphic card

I have a HP Pavilion a724n. How can I replace the integrated graphic card? Do I need a PCI video card for the replacement.

If this is your computer then you have a PCI-Express x16 slot. You definitely should add a PCI-Express video card rather than an obsolete PCI video card which is much slower. Your machine has a 300 watt power supply so it can handle some decent mid-range video cards which are substantially faster than your onboard video. To help with recommendations, what's your price range and intended use for the machine?

in addition to Uncle (and not trying to contradict you, uncle, you probably know more than me ), your 300 W might be sufficient, but if you can get more. I have tried to put a standard PCI Geforce 5200 in a PC before with under a 300W psu and it wouldn't have it. Nothing was hooked up taking too much power either. Kept freezing. So PCIe's are probably going to take a little more power.

Send a message via MSN to VolvoNut
Gamerman makes a good point, provided hp doesn't use proprietary hardware (read: Dell), otherwise, this would turn into replacing a whole bunch of components.

Cheers,
Al
