X1900XTX or XT, because of better IQ with ATI.

I voted for Nvidia on this one. I for one, just like the overall user friendly sort of thing that Nvidia has over ATI. But, that might just be me, who knows.

i voted for nvidia cause their 7800 and up series are like pure sex. the x1900xt's are doing extremely well with the crossfire and im impressed. if the prices were lower for them that would be better but nothing beats a quad config 7800gtx

Quad SLI is insanity in my opinion. Both monetarily and technically. As far as price X1900XT's are now $459.00 and $495.00 at the egg for the XTX (OEM's). If you look around the 7900GTX can be had for just $479.00 like right here. Price really isn't and issue on either side. I do like the nVIDA lower power consumption and heat signature though.

I had to vote x1900xtx, I've been buying mostly nvidia for a while because it seems whenever I need a new card evga has just what I need cheap. But the x1900xtx has a faster core and memory clock at 650/1550 vs. 450/1200 for the 7800gtx. Also the X1900xtx has 48 pixelpipes vs 24. But you can get the 7800gtx as low as $270 and the 1900xtx is still $450. So even though I voted 1900xtx I'd still end up buying the 7800gtx.

Oops I should have paid more attention before I wasted all that time looking up the wrong nvidia card, lol. I change my vote.

I personally don't care how good the best ATI card is, I'd go nVidia no matter what. But from a non-biased point of view, I reckon nVidia's got ATI here.

Even if the 7900GTX is only just as good as the X1900XTX (although I think it's better), nVidia has the advantage of SLI. Sure, ATI has Crossfire, but you need a master card, and the X1900 master card is only an XT, not an XTX, which brings the XTX's performance down. This doesn't happen with SLI. You get the full performance out of both cards.

The 7900GTX has a 650 core clock, same as the X1900XTX. The 7900GTX has a 1600 memory clock, which is higher than the 1550 of the XTX. The X1900 only beats the 7900 in terms of pixel pipelines, but I think all the other pros for the 7900 make up for this.

Also, in terms of reliability and ease of use, I've had much better experiences with nVidia cards than ATI ones.

What I want to see next, though, is a 7900GTX 1Gb card.

Depends how high end you talking about

I have looked at comparison of gaming benchmarks for about 30 sites since the 7900GTX came out yesterday and it about neck and neck with the x1900XTX. In the end but the x1900XTX have a very slight lead for single card soultion.

Now if you got insane money then 7900GTX wins because pretty much every sites showed 7900GTX SLI beating x1900XTX crossfire.

I voted ati on this one because I would never consider crossfire or sli it just not worth the money to me.

I voted nVidia because they've proven to me time and time again that they make superior chips.

As we know from the AMD and Intel wars, speed doesn't = performance so saying one is better because it has a faster core isn't always correct.

Actually speed is speed, and it does equal performance. Directly so. I think you mean to day that clock speed 'ratings' don't necessarrily equal superior performance. AMD has outdone Intel because of the on-die memory controller and better use of contained clockspeed/ratio algorythms and better heat signature performance.

And architecture. You can have 500 pipes in there but what matters is how efficiently the processor moves data through the pipes.

Send a message via MSN to VolvoNut
ATI. Partly because they're Canadian and partly because their top card is about equal with nVidia's, except in DVD video performance, where the ATI spanks the nVidia.

Cheers,
Al
