SPecial PSU for card?
SO Recently I ordered a new x1900 ALL IN wonder http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102685
and it says 450-Watt power supply or greater, 30 Amps on 12 volt rail recommended (assumes fully loaded system) I currently have this PSU ordered http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103933 and I'm not sure what it means by 12v by 30 amps will my psu support it? Also what is a 6pin pci connector? And does my current powersupply hav eit? Last edited by xProx; 03-06-2006 at 02:03 PM. |

according to that site the power supply output is as follows:
Output +3.3V@32A, +5V@40A, +12V1@19A, +12V2@19A, -12V@1A, +5VSB@2A Unfortunately I don't know much about power supplies, but what I do know is that at +12V@19A means 19amps not 30 but it shows that twice so maybe that's a total of 38A? I've never seen a power supply with 30A. Mine is a raidmax 420 watt with 13A and I've never had a problem but I don't use PCI-express. BTW, will I have to upgrade my power supply to get a pci-e like a fx6800? As for the 6 pin connector according to a customer at the site: "Pros: Very stable PS, has lots of wires, 2x pci-express" <- that's them. |

@ xProx
Yes, that PSU will be sufficient. Jnob's assumption is right. That PSU has two 12v rails to equal 38A on the 12v. @ Jnob, you should be safe with that power supple for a 6800. Specifically what 6800 are you looking at and I'll tell you for sure.

Well I haven't really decided yet, I just got a mb with both PCI-E and agp-e so I'm using my old agp 5700le now. Maybe in a month or so, I'm thinking of something like 500Mhz core/ 1000Mhz memory, any suggestions? Thanks.
I'm running P4 3.0 630 with 1.5GB pc3200, eventually 2GB pc4200. Only game I really am interested in improving fps is Postal 2 STP with current setup I get about 150 in buildings and 20-60 outside. |

To Jnob, I would suggest the 6600gt, 6800gs, or if you have the money, any 7series. I have a 6600gt and it's a dream. I'm running 60 frames per second in World of Warcraft, 45 frames per second in Battlefield 2 (medium settings), and I can't wait to see what Doom 3 has to offer. Hope this helps.

Definately. They have lowered in price since i bought mine. Also, make sure you get evga. That is was i have and i've heard some bad things about other companies 6600gt's. I love the quality of evga and will definately use them when building my cousins comp.

XFX, evga, BFG Tech., Gigabyte with some cards, and Asus are all on the top of my list for cards. I had a BFG Tech. GeForce 5200 for a long time until I upgraded. I got the evga 6600gt in late Feb. and it's been kicking **** since. I had a friend over with his comp and we were playing BF2:SF side by side today and he has a XFX 6600gt at the same settings as mine and he was getting about an average of 3 frames per second less then me. Same system specs as me and I was just squeezing past him in fps. Something to think about.

Yes, I am also very happy with evga. To tell you the truth I've never had a video card I was unhappy with. From PNY, ATI, eVGA, MSI, but I usually go with what other people are happy with at the time so I guess that helps.. |

Good. I'm glad that my opinion helped someone. lol. I just recently found out that a co-worker of mine has an evga geforce 5500 and he overclocked it to roughly a 6100 and it's been like that for about 3 weeks and he's only noticed one small insignificant problem which was the temp of the card jumped from 38c to about 45c. But, that really isn't all that bad concidering he tried to do that with a ATI 9550 and it burnt out the chip on it. I've always like Nvidia. The drivers are sooooo much more simple to download. With ATI, I am always too scared to attempt to even understand how to download the drivers. I guess that's just me though.
